As summer starts to wind down, there’s certainly been no slowing down our fundraising heroes!
From incredible personal stories and community fundraising to challenges, clubs and crafty creations, August has been packed with people going above and beyond to support our life-saving service.
Every fundraiser, donation and act of generosity helps keep our crews flying and providing critical care when people need it most.
Let’s take a look at just some of August’s fundraising heroes…
Continued support
With a background in both nursing and ambulance driving, Annette Davies has a strong appreciation of the vital work carried out by our team.
Over the past few years, Annette has taken on several fundraising initiatives in support of our charity, and this month she visited our Langwathby base to hand over not one, but two more cheques.
Thanks to her continued support, Annette has now raised a fantastic £1,134.20 for our service.
Crafting for a cause
From staff and volunteers to supporters and new faces, our latest crafting session brought together a wonderful mix of people, including our youngest attendee yet, just seven years old!
The two-and-a-half-hour session was a chance to slow down, get creative and try something new.
And, of course, there was fundraising involved too, with an impressive £210 raised.
A huge thank you to Dot and her friend for leading the group and sharing their skills. They’re already hoping to hold more classes in the future, with a whole range of activities planned to raise funds for our charity.
A very special reunion
We recently welcomed 87-year-old Patsie to our Langwathby base for a very special reunion with paramedic Terry, one of the critical care team members involved in saving her life nine years ago.
Following a serious incident that left Patsie with severe, life-threatening injuries, Terry and the team provided the critical care she needed at the scene, before airlifting her to hospital. Her recovery was remarkable, and she has never forgotten the role our team played in helping her survive.
The visit was an emotional occasion for both Patsie and Terry, giving them the opportunity to meet again and reflect on the events of that day. Terry was also able to answer questions Patsie had carried with her for many years about her treatment and rescue.
At the end of the visit, Patsie surprised Terry by presenting a generous donation of £1,000 to support our charity. Having experienced first-hand the difference our service can make, she knows just how important it is that our crews remain available for people facing life-threatening emergencies across the region.
We are incredibly grateful to Patsie for her kindness and support, and we’re honoured to have been part of her story. Thank you.
A WI gathering for good
A recent WI group talk and event in Herrington brought together around 100 lovely ladies, raising an incredible £1,100 for our service, with a further £235 raised through merchandise and donations.
It was a fantastic opportunity to meet such a wonderful group of supporters, share more about the work of our crews and raise vital funds at the same time.
There’ll be an official cheque presentation and evening event on 2 September, so we’re looking forward to seeing the group again soon!
A journey of recovery
We were delighted to welcome Emmy Carr to our airbase, alongside her parents and grandma, following a trampoline accident in Carlisle in October 2025.
Emmy suffered a tibia and fibula fracture and required two surgeries, as well as a stabilisation frame. After months of treatment and physiotherapy, she has now reached a huge milestone – finishing her treatment.
During her visit, Emmy shared her memories of the incident, including what she remembers as the funniest part: watching our crew trying to get onto the trampoline!
Emmy’s grandma is now fundraising for GNAAS this year, with an ambitious target of £1,000.
It was wonderful to see Emmy looking so well and hear about her recovery. We wish her all the very best for the future!
Ready, set, fundraise!
Our Isle of Man Great North Run runners came together for a special event this month, with 17 supporters joining us to share fitness and fundraising advice ahead of the big day.
The group also heard from Peter, who has previously taken part in the Great North Run and was able to share some helpful tips and insights from his own experience.
Special thanks to Justin, Emma and the team at ELS for hosting us and helping bring everyone together.
Speed shearing and support
Skelton Young Farmers Club has once again shown its incredible support for our charity, presenting a donation of £2,700 from their 2026 Charity Speed Shear in June.
The club raised a total of £8,100, to be equally shared between three charities – and for the second year running, we were one of them.
The evening was made even more special by conversations with several people whose loved ones had been airlifted by our crews. It was a powerful reminder of the impact our service has within rural and farming communities.
The club’s decision to choose to support our charity again, was made following a visit to our Langwathby airbase in October, when they came to meet the crew and hear about the impact of the £3,100 donation from their 2025 fundraiser.
Little legs, big support
Earlier this year, the children of Rickleton Primary School laced up their trainers for the Sunderland 3K and raised an incredible £1,515 for GNAAS.
This month, our team welcomed the young fundraisers to the base so they could officially hand over their cheque.
It was brilliant to meet the children behind the fundraising, show them a little more about our service and celebrate their achievement together.
A huge well done to every single one of them – what a fantastic effort!
Scooting towards £10,000
Filth Hounds Scooter Club Cumbria presented an incredible £10,000 donation to our charity, following their 2026 Ride Out and Charity Weekend in July.
The club first chose to support us in 2024, after our team carried out a life-saving intervention for fellow scooterist Barry.
Since then, their fundraising has gone from strength to strength, raising £4,202 in 2024, £5,100 in 2025, and now an astonishing £10,000 in 2026.
This year’s phenomenal total was made possible thanks to the support of local businesses, scooter clubs from across the country, prize donors, volunteers, and organisers – with a special mention to Rylo and the Filth Hounds team for their dedication and hard work.
The 2026 ride-out also included a moving stop at Lowther Castle in memory of fellow scooterist Terri.
An anonymous £400 donation and an additional £500 contribution from Roadsafe helped bring the grand total to an incredible £10,000!
We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved for their outstanding support, which will help our crews continue delivering life-saving care across the North.
A club with a cause
Representatives from Well Oiled MCC surprised us this month with a generous donation of £500 – that’s more than double the amount they donated to our charity last year.
The motorcycle club is passionate about supporting local causes that make a real difference in their community, and for member Allan, our work is especially close to home.
Allan needed the help of our crews himself in 2023. His experience reinforces the importance of ensuring expert pre-hospital critical care remains available across our rural region.
We’re hugely grateful to Allan and everyone at Well Oiled MCC for continuing to support our service.
Sunday night supporters
We received another fabulous donation from the Stockton Sunday Night Charity League this month.
A huge thank you everyone involved for continuing to raise funds for our charity, and to volunteer John White for attending the cheque presentation.
We’re incredibly grateful for your support – every donation helps us continue our life-saving work across the North.
Rallying for GNAAS
We also headed to Dormanstown, Redcar, at the end of August to join the IX Legion MCC (Motorcycle Club) Rally.
It was a fantastic event, with live music, food, and a brilliant atmosphere. It was also a fantastic opportunity to catch up with our supporters in the motorcycle community.
Over the last year, the IX Legion MCC have raised £2,000 through various fundraising activities on their weekly meets.
A huge thank you to everyone at IX Legion MCC for their continued support. It’s fantastic to see the club rallying behind our life-saving work.
